INDICATIONS FOR CELTRA DUO®
CELTRA DUO® MICROSTRUCTUREWhat separates Celtra Duo® from other milling blocks is the presence of 10% zirconia oxide. The zirconia is automatically dissolved into and reinforces the lithium silicate glass matrix. It is responsible for the crystal nucleation phase, which results in a large number of fine-grained lithium silicate crystallites. The high glass content is what gives the material its excellent light-optical and mechanical properties. Compared to conventional lithium disilicates, the zirconium oxide causes the crystallites to be formed four to eight times smaller, measuring around 500–700 nm in size. The resulting crystallites yield high flexural strength properties while the zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (ZLS) submicron microstructure allows blocks to be milled, polished, and seated without having to go through additional crystallization. MECHANICAL AND OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF CELTRA DUO®Celtra Duo® can be processed quickly and efficiently, while resulting in long-lasting restorations. Because the ZLS material can be finished and polished in its final crystallized state, they result in faster turnaround time than conventional lithium disilicate milling blocks. Additionally, the 10% dissolved zirconia yields high edge stability and a strength of 210-370 MPa, which is 75% higher strength than glass ceramics. Chameleon-like esthetics are made possible due to the high levels of translucency, opalescence, and fluorescence. The fine lithium silicate crystallites embedded in the glass matrix allows Celtra to behave like natural tooth enamel and helps to retain its typical light-optical properties. TWO PROCESSING OPTIONS FOR CELTRACeltra Duo® milling blocks provide two processing options: Mill and polish, and mill and fire. MIlling and polishing Celtra results in a 210 MPa flexural strength, while the latter process yields a 370 MPa flexural strength. Firing increases the strength because of crack healing that occurs with the firing process. Furthermore, there are two firing techniques to be used: wet-firing and dry-firing. The wet-firing technique process is to mill, stain and glaze, and then fire. The dry-firing technique consists of milling, then polishing, and lastly, firing.
